A Mommy Dearest Kind of Day!

March 1, 2011

It's TASTY TUESDAY on FTLOB

Remember when you were a child, and your mom would make cookies?
Do remember how hard it was to wait for her to finish mixing the dough, because she would let you lick the beaters when she was finished?
There was nothing better than licking those beaters!  The sweet taste of uncooked dough mixed with the danger of consuming raw eggs! (I always felt bad for the kids whose parents actually worried about such foolishness as salmonella)!
Anyhow...today I baked cookies for my children, and since I remember as a child the pure elation I would feel when my mother handed us the beaters...
I stood over the sink and I licked those beaters clean!

Don't worry...
I told my kids that raw eggs could make them sick....

Haha, my mom would try to use that one on me too. No suck luck. Oh, and she used to say she was having Mommy Dearest days as well, of course kidding. Too funny. And too cool that ya'll lived in Texas for two season! I hope it was good to you and the fam :)

HAHA, that is outrageous! You funny lady, and I bet every bit of that dough tasted just as sweet as ever! Maybe someday your children will get to lick the beaters...if they make you cookies in bed. Happy Tuesday.

I'm a raw cake batter kinda girl myself. I always offer the beater to my kids to lick...and they look at me like I'm crazy. Salmonella be damned! Raw eggs mixed with sugar and vanilla are freaking delicious.

Hahaha! That's good parenting, if you ask me.

My husband actually begs for one of the beaters when I'm making cookies, brownies, etc. It's like having a little kid.

Haha I'm sure you ONLY licked them yourself because you were worried about the safety of your kiddos. :) My mom (on the RARE occasion that she would bake anything) would drill into us how bad it was to lick raw eggs. She must have really scared me...the other day I saw my husband lick batter off a spoon, and I shouted, "Oh my gosh! What did you DO??? You are totally gonna DIE now!! That has EGGS in it!!!" It is several days later, and he hasn't kicked it yet...

Ha! This is hilarious.

When my kids were very young I never let them lick the beaters because of the raw eggs. They thought I said 'rotten eggs' and I didn't bother correcting them. For a few years they had no interest in the beaters until finally one day I was asked why I baked with rotten eggs.

Yep. Totally ate the raw dough this morning when I made chocolate chip scones. Of course, there were no scary raw eggs in there, so really this story has no point at all.

Enjoy the salmonella!

I loved eating batter as a kid (and still do) and irrationally used to think if I drank a glass of milk it would keep me from getting sick. See on an episode of Dr. Quinn (yes I get all my medical advice from period piece medical shows) she had someone drink a glass of milk because it coated the stomach--ergo if I drank a big glass of milk with my chocolate chip cookie dough, I was safe :)

Hope you are having a great day!

Mine is too young to know what she's missing, but I will warn her of "the raw eggs" too so I can hoard the batter!

My keyboard cover is silicone (I got it at amazon) they have different colors and YES it protects from dust, spills, pee, and whatever else may spray in the general vicinity of it. Honestly, mine matches my lap top bag, but I like the protection it offers as well. :)

You're too funny. If my children watch Mommy Dearest one day, I fear they will have the most horrific flashbacks...

Once, when I was little I was licking the beaters while they were still attached to the mixer..which was still plugged in. My brother turned it on and my tongue got stuck. Good time.

Too funny! Now I'm craving some good old fashion beater-licking.

Found you on FTLOB, and I'm happy I did!

Love it! But where are the pictures of the cookies? What kind did you make? Come on, give a girl a chance to live (eat? drool?) vicariously, won't you?! :-)

Funny! I have a picture on my blog as part of my 365 project of my daughter licking a beater. I'm stopping by from the Thirsty Thursday blog hop to follow you. If you get a chance please stop by my blog to do the same. Thanks! Dena

I also remember the time my sister's long hair got caught in the beaters. Yikes! I'm a follower from Thirsty Thursdays.
