Masters be damned...

April 10, 2011

Well today is the last day of The Masters....and I can no longer remain silent!  All I want to do is scream!

If I didn't know better, I would think there is something fishy about The Masters golf tournament!  The fact that Augusta is a MEN'S ONLY golf club only makes my argument that much stronger....

Do you think it is a coincidence that The Masters is held at the end of the regular hockey season?

Not to start a conspiracy theory...but it is about this time of year I am knee deep in boxes, hockey bags, and STRESS...while my husband sits watching golf on TV.  To say I get a little peeved by this is an understatement.

I feel so guilty if I take an hour and watch an episode of Real Housewives of New York....and if I do sit and watch a television show...I am usually folding laundry.  Could you imagine what would happen if I sat and watched a Real Housewives marathon for FOUR DAYS STRAIGHT?

I always pat myself on the back when it comes to our family planning, since both of my children were born right at the end of the regular hockey season.  On the other hand, both of my children were also born during the week of The Masters.

This is our newborn daughter watching Phil Mickelson win his first green jacket.....You are welcome Phil, I am happy to have birthed your good luck charm!

Now as you can guess...my husband, being the lover-of-golf hands-on-dad that he is, was more than happy to get to know his new child by lying on the hospital bed and hold her close while he watched The Masters!
This is a picture of my husband watching The Masters while holding our newborn daughter.  If you notice he is lying in my hospital bed!  I was forced to sit in the chair while he slept held our daughter!

Now don't get me wrong, it has been a tough hockey season for my husband....read here.  It is always tough when the team doesn't make the play-offs, and I am sure a little golf on the television helps take his mind off an early end to his hockey season.

I just get frustrated when this is his view...

and this is my view...

Visiting from FTLOB Comment Love! I can totally relate. When my oldest was born, just before it was time for me to push...her dad and my brother laid out a putting green in the L&D hallway and practiced their grip, stance, and putts. Can you say blazing mad momma??? Golf is highly over-rated! Have a blessed week!

I choose to look at it a different way..."Honey, I am going shopping for a new wardrobe with your credit cards" "Yeah, yeah, have fun...did you see that putt lip out?" "I plan on spending a few thousand dollars" "Whatever...poor, poor McIlroy, he is completely self-destructing" "I am having an affair with the pool boy" "Pool? No, this is golf"

Every time I read something like this I thank God for my husband's limited interest in sports. Then again, poker doesn't have a "season," which means he watches all year round...

Um - I would have hurled some golf balls at their heads!

Sorry to hear the hubby didn't make the playoffs. We would have been cheering for his team since (OBVIOUSLY) the Blues were no where close to making them and I need to cheer for a team that will beat the Blackhawks or the Red Wings (rivalries run deep). Sorry I can't sympathize about the Masters . . . we love Masters Sunday (and really all days leading up to it).

Hugs

If it makes you feel any better, my husband would not be any different. I think actually he would be telling me to hold out a little long, don't push, want to see this chip! haha. I can't lie though, I really enjoy watching the masters too. But then again we aren't packing up just yet. Don't think I would be so kind if that were the case :) Good luck with the packing up! I know ya'll are looking forward to a nice summer :)

It sounds like your husband needs a golf intervention!

i feel like you just wrote about a glimpse into my life...ok, minus the part about the hubs being a pro hockey player. i have a couple pics of my hubs in MY hospital bed too, except he had the audacity to watch the movie "Taken". ever seen it? it's about a man whos daughter was kidnapped and then sold...yeah, my hubs thought it would be a good idea to watch it in the labor delivery floor right after i birthed a little girl. MEN!!! psh....

Many years the Masters have been on Easter Sunday which means a big family gathering at my grandparents' house and the men in the family sneaking off during dinner to watch the final rounds :)

Just when I feel like throwing a pitty party.......I am reminded of the hardship of the military wife. Hang in there....together we will find the humor and the tears in a husband who is never home!
